Joomla!™ 1.5 Components
As the name suggests, JConverter allows you to convert your WordPress blog into a Joomla!™ site. It can import users, blog posts, categories, pages and even links from your WordPress blog to Joomla!™. It's very easy to use. Just install it, select the options you want to imports from WordPress and click on "Start Conversion". It queries the WordPress database for blog posts, pages, users, links and categories and converts them to Joomla!™ format. All in just one click. Converting a WordPress site to Joomla!™ is a painful manual process of copying pages/posts and exporting/importing SQL tables. With JConverter, all this is done in just one click.
This is BETA release and there are some new features planned in future. As of now, there are certain limitations of JConverter which you can find under configuration panel of component.
IMPORTANT : Though you can import your WordPress site in an existing Joomla!™ site, it's ideal for creating a fresh Joomla!™ site from an existing Wordpress site. In such case, install the latest Joomla!™ version WITHOUT SAMPLE DATA, install JConverter, provide the configuration details and import. This extension is built on top of mtwMigrator to avoid reinventing the wheel since it was every close to what is needed for JConverter. Thanks to Matias Aguirre for building such a useful extension.
Limitations:
1. JConverter imports the categories from Wordpress however it doesn't associate the imported posts/pages with corresponding categories since Wordpress allows associating posts/pages with multiple categories but Joomla!™ doesn't. Moreover, since Joomla!™ doesn't support sub-categories, JConverter imports all categories and sub-categories from Wordpress as category.
2. Wordpress uses phpass algorithm for users password encryption but Joomla!™ uses MD5. Hence users login password imported from Wordpress will not work. One way to get over it is to install Wordpress "MD5 Password Hashes" plugin before you import your Wordpress site in Joomla!™ using JConverter. This plugin converts the Wordpress passwords in MD5 which Joomla!™ understands - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/md5-password-hashes/
NOTE : We are planning to include a new feature in forthcoming releases where you will be able to set a common password for all users. You can communicate the new password to them using Joomla!™ mass mail feature or by any other means.
3. JConveter imports only database, not the files which might be part of posts/pages (e.g. images etc). That need to be taken care of manually by editing the imported posts/pages in Joomla!™.
4. For importaing links from WordPress database, JConverter creates a link category "WordPress Links" and imports all links from WordPress under it.
